Meet Our Board of Directors
Executive Committee
President- David Pitser, Childress Klein Properties
 David Pitser is a native
North Carolinian, by way of Winston-Salem. He has lived in Charlotte since 1986,
mostly in historic neighborhoods. David has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
from Duke University and holds both Real Property Administrator and LEED Accredited Professional
designations. David joined the HCI Board of Directors in 2005 and is currently acting President.
He is a Partner and Director of Property Management for Childress Klein Properties. He lives in
Eastover with his wife and children.
Vice President - Brian Clarke, Littler Mendelson, P.C.
 Brian has been a Board
Member of HCI since 2007 and is currently Vice President of the Board of Directors. Prior to moving
to Charlotte, he was Director and Officer of Preservation Greensboro, Inc. from 2004-2007. Brian is
an attorney with Littler Mendelson, P.C. He focuses his practice on employment and labor law and
litigation for employers. Brian is also an Adjunct Professor at Washington & Lee University Law School
and the Chair of Labor and Employment Law Council of the North Carolina Bar Association.
Treasurer - Al Brown, Community Volunteer
 Al Brown joined the HCI Board
of Directors in January 2005 and became Treasurer in December 2007. He retired from Wachovia Bank in
December 2007 after a 34 year career in Mortgage Banking, Finance and Corporate Real Estate. He graduated
from the University of North Carolina and the UNC Kenan-Flagler School of Business and Accounting. Prior to
his career at Wachovia and First Union National Banks, he was a CPA for KPMG Peat Marwick in Raleigh, NC.
Al's interest in history and commitment to preservation is partially a result of growing-up in Winston-Salem
with its rich history. He has been in Charlotte since 1980 and is also on the Board of Partners for Parks and
a member of the Little Sugar Creek Trail of History Committee.

Nathan Adams, Lance Corporation
 Nathan Adams joined HCI’s
Board after completing the 2007 ASC Cultural Leadership program. Nathan joined
HCI based on his interest in architecture and history. He is currently a Project
Manager with Lance Incorporated. Nathan has an undergraduate and a master's
degree from Clemson University in mechanical engineering. He lives with his wife,
Angel and their young son, Ethan in Indian Trail.
Terri Arrowood, Community Volunteer
 Terri Arrowood is a long-time
Charlottean. She has over twenty years experience in marketing, public relations, fundraising and
event planning. Terri was involved with some of the community’s most well-known organizations
including Bank of America, The Charlotte Chamber and SpringFest. She served as the Plaza Midwood
representative on the Historic District Commission for six years and is starting her ninth year as
Managing Editor of their newsletter. She currently lives and volunteers in NoDa with her husband, Jeff.
Jenifer Daniels, Central Piedmont Community College
 Jenifer Daniels, a newcomer to Charlotte by way of Detroit, MI
is a Southerner at heart as her family tree traces back to South Carolina. Jenifer joined HCI’s Board of Directors after
completing the 2008 ASC Cultural Leadership program. A lover of sustainability, Jenifer’s passion for history and preservation
began with her work as a Special Events Manager at the Detroit Historical Museum. Jenifer has a Masters in Communication,
Certification in Nonprofit Management and over 10 years experience in
'friendraising'. She is an adjunct faculty member at Central
Piedmont Community College. Jenifer lives with her husband, Richard and their daughter in Charlotte.
Katrina Ford, Jr. League of Charlotte
 Katrina
Ford also joins the HCI Board of Directors from the 2007 ASC
Cultural Leadership Program. Katrina is in her fifth year as
Administrative Director for The Junior League of Charlotte. An avid
history student, she is a Docent at The Charlotte History Museum. Katrina has a Master’s in Public Administration from Auburn
University and she just recently completed her Graduate Certificate
in Nonprofit Management from Duke University. She lives with her
husband, Gary in Weddington.
Cameron Blake-Holtz, Community Volunteer
Seth Hudson, Clements Bernard
 Seth Hudson joined HCI’s Board of Directors
after completing the 2008 ASC Cultural Leadership program. Seth earned his undergraduate degrees in Mechanical
Engineering and Chemistry from North Carolina State University and received his law degree from the University
of Richmond. He is currently an attorney with the law firm Clements Bernard and concentrates his practice on
construction law, intellectual property and architect/engineer malpractice defense. He lives in Charlotte with his wife,
Cecily and their son.
Mundise Mortimer, National Gypsum
 Mundise Mortimer also joined HCI’s Board after completing the 2007
ASC Cultural Leadership program. Mundise is a relative newcomer to
Charlotte, by way of Southern California, but is very much a
Southerner at heart, having grown up in Mississippi. Mundise
is Manager, Technical Marketing at National Gypsum Company.
Kevin Monroe, Monroe Consulting
 Kevin Monroe has been deeply involved in
government and politics for over 25 years. His professional career began on Capitol Hill in 1986.
After 18 years of service to the federal government, he began his own government relations and consulting
business. Kevin is a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Georgetown in D.C. One of his major tasks
was working with the St. John’s Annual Georgetown House Tour, one of the oldest house tours in the country.
He is a volunteer with the USO at Charlotte Douglas Airport and is Chair of the United Negro College Fund
Annual 5K Run and Walk. An avid runner himself, Monroe has complete 11 Marine Corps Marathons. Kevin has
been a member of the HCI Board of Directors since 2007.
Mary Beth Navarro, Wachovia Corporation
 Mary Beth Navarro joined HCI’s Board in 2008 and has lived in
Charlotte with her husband, Paul, for 10 years. She is originally
from South Carolina and is a graduate of Wake Forest University and
the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at UNC-Chapel Hill,
where she earned a master’s degree in public relations. Mary Beth
is a Senior Vice President in Corporate Communications at Wachovia,
where she supports the company’s marketing efforts. She is
especially interested in the preservation of local landmarks such as
the McGlohon Theatre at Spirit Square.
Jeanne A. Pearson, Johnston, Allison & Hord, PA
 Jeanne Pearson grew up in the Charlotte area. She has been a
volunteer for the last three Historic Charlotte Blast for the Past
events, and joined the HCI Board of Directors last spring. Jeanne
is a partner at Johnston Allison & Hord, PA, and concentrates her
practice on real estate development. Jeanne is in her 8 th
year of service on the City of Rock Hill Zoning Board of Appeals
where she served as Chairperson for five of those years. She lives
with her husband, Jeff Lenertz, in Rock Hill.
Candice Williams, The Title Company
 Candice Williams, a Charlotte native, joined HCI’s Board of Directors
in June 2009. Candice earned her undergraduate degree in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
and received her law degree from Wake Forest University School of Law. One of her ancestors signed the Mecklenburg Declaration of
Independence. She is currently Vice-President and Counsel for the Title Company of North Carolina and works in the areas of commercial
and residential real estate. She is a member of Historic Charlotte and a frequent volunteer for Preservation Month and History Learning
Series events.
