Board of Directors
Brian
has been a Board Member of HCI since 2007. Prior to moving to
Charlotte, he was Director and an Officer of Preservation
Greensboro, Inc. from 2004-2007. Brian is an Assistant Professor at
Charlotte School of Law where he teaches Civil Procedure and
Employment Law, among other classes. Prior to entering academia,
Brian practiced law for more than eleven years with Littler
Mendelson, PC in Charlotte, NC and Nexsen Pruet, LLC in Greensboro,
N.C. where his practice focused on employment law and litigation.
He lives in Charlotte with his wife, their four children and
various dogs, cats, birds and chickens.

Seth Hudson joined HCI’s Board of Directors
after completing the 2008 ASC Cultural Leadership program. Seth
earned his undergraduate degrees in Mechanical Engineering and
Chemistry from North Carolina State University and received his law
degree from the University of Richmond. He is currently an attorney
with the law firm Clements Bernard and concentrates his practice on
construction law, intellectual property and architect/engineer
malpractice defense. He lives in Charlotte with his wife, Cecily and
two children.
Mary Beth Navarro joined HCI’s Board in 2008 and has lived in
Charlotte with her husband, Paul, for 10 years. She is originally
from South Carolina and is a graduate of Wake Forest University and
the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at UNC-Chapel Hill,
where she earned a master’s degree in public relations. Mary Beth
is
especially interested in the preservation of local landmarks such as
the McGlohon Theatre at Spirit Square.
Jeanne Pearson grew up in the Charlotte area. She has been a
volunteer for the last three Historic Charlotte Blast for the Past
events, and joined the HCI Board of Directors last spring. Jeanne
is a partner at Johnston Allison & Hord, PA, and concentrates her
practice on real estate development. Jeanne is in her 8th
year of service on the City of Rock Hill Zoning Board of Appeals
where she served as Chairperson for five of those years. She lives
with her husband, Jeff Lenertz, in Rock Hill.
Andy
is a native North Carolinian who joined HCI Board of Directors upon
completion of the 2010 Arts & Science Council Cultural Leadership
Training program. He has a Bachelor of Science in Business
Administration and a Master of Accounting from the University of
North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Andy is currently a senior manager
in the assurance practice at Ernst & Young LLP and lives in South
Charlotte with his wife and children.
Nathan Adams joined HCI’s
Board after completing the 2007 ASC Cultural Leadership program. Nathan joined
HCI based on his interest in architecture and history. He is currently a Project
Manager with Lance Incorporated. Nathan has an undergraduate and a master's
degree from Clemson University in mechanical engineering. He lives with his wife,
Angel and their young son, Ethan in Indian Trail.
Terri Arrowood is a long-time
Charlottean. She has over twenty years experience in marketing, public relations, fundraising and
event planning. Terri was involved with some of the community’s most well-known organizations
including Bank of America, The Charlotte Chamber and SpringFest. She served as the Plaza Midwood
representative on the Historic District Commission for six years and is starting her ninth year as
Managing Editor of their newsletter. She currently lives and volunteers in NoDa with her husband, Jeff.

Kristen
Day joined the HCI Board of Directors in 2011 after completing the Arts
& Science Council Cultural Leadership Training program. Kristen earned
her undergraduate degree the University of Chapel Hill and received a
master’s degree in journalism and mass communication from the University
of South Carolina. A Senior Biopharmaceutical Representative for Amgen,
Kristen’s professional experience also includes public relations, event
planning and fundraising. She previously served as a board member for
the Young Affiliates of the Mint Museum. A native of Charleston, SC,
Kristen grew up with a deep appreciation for history and preservation.
She currently resides in Dilworth.
Neel
joined the HCI Board of Directors upon completion of the 2010 Arts &
Science Council Cultural Leadership Training program. Neel is a
native Charlottean who was inspired by Historic Charlotte’s mission
to preserve and promote the region’s history and heritage. A College
of Charleston graduate, she appreciates having lived in such a
unique city. Neel resides in Myers Park where she enjoys gardening and
playing tennis.
Carrie
is a co-owner of Studio Fusion, a Charlotte based architecture and
interior design firm specializing in both commercial and residential
projects. Her interest in preservation began through her work on
office, retail and restaurant renovations in Charlotte’s historic
buildings, including Atherton Mill, The Design Center for the
Carolinas, and the Grinnell Waterworks building. She is a LEED
accredited professional and a graduate of Virginia Tech. She and
her husband Chris reside in Dilworth and she spends her free time
chasing her twin boys.
John
is a Principal Planner with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Planning
Department where he has worked as a planner and urban designer since
2000. John is president of the Revolution Park Neighborhood
Association and member of the West Boulevard Neighborhood
Coalition. He previously served as a board member for Focus on
Future Leaders and volunteer for Historic Charlotte’s Preservation
Month. John is a graduate of UNC Charlotte School of Architecture.
Emily
is an Assistant Professor of architectural and urban history at the
UNC Charlotte School of Architecture. She has a Masters in Historic
Preservation from Columbia University and a PhD in the history of
architecture and urbanism from Cornell University. Her research and
teaching focus is on connections between architecture, identity,
memory and politics in Europe. She moved to the area in 2007 and
lives in east Charlotte with her husband, Miran.
Kevin
Monroe has been deeply involved in government and politics for over
25 years. After 18 years of service to the federal government, he
began his own government relations and consulting business. Kevin is
a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Georgetown in D.C. One of
his major tasks was working with the St. John’s Annual Georgetown
House Tour, one of the oldest house tours in the country. Kevin has
been a member of the HCI Board of Directors since 2007.
Candice Williams, a Charlotte native, joined HCI’s Board of Directors
in June 2009. Candice earned her undergraduate degree in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
and received her law degree from Wake Forest University School of Law. One of her ancestors signed the Mecklenburg Declaration of
Independence. She is currently Vice-President and Counsel for the Title Company of North Carolina and works in the areas of commercial
and residential real estate. She is a member of Historic Charlotte and a frequent volunteer for Preservation Month and History Learning
Series events.
