Carolina School Supply Building

Carolina School Supply BuildingConstructed in 1927, the Carolina School Supply Building survives as one of the best-preserved early twentieth-century warehouses in Charlotte. Located at 1023 West Morehead Street in what was one of Charlotte's principal industrial zones, the Carolina School Supply Building was used as a distribution facility for school supplies throughout the Carolinas. Though a utilitarian building, it was embellished with a distinctive Gothic Revival façade that echoed a style popular for many school designs of the era.

After acquiring the property in 1999, Conformity Corporation placed the Carolina School Supply Building on the National Register of Historic Places and adaptively rehabilitated the facility for use as an office building. Much of the historic character of the building has been retained, including the hardwood floors, tongue-and-groove ceilings, exposed brick, interior steel columns, and timber beams. The original freight elevator has also been restored and is now used as the building's main entrance. Today, the renovated Carolina School Supply Building anchors the revitalization of Charlotte's West Morehead Corridor.

The Conformity Corporation has also promoted economic development and revitalization in Charlotte's historic Elizabeth neighborhood. In 1992, Conformity Corporation relocated and renovated four historic properties that would have been demolished during the redirection of Independence Boulevard. In 1996, the company restored two quadruplexes on Oakland Avenue, sparking the renovation of many surrounding properties. Conformity's current project is an adaptive rehabilitation of the Rutzler Apartment Building on Louise Avenue. For over a decade, the Conformity Corporation has combined a respect for history with a vision for the future to create successful development projects that enhance and revitalize Charlotte's historic neighborhoods.
