A
principal purpose of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg
Historic Landmarks Commission is to recommend the designation of
individually significant sites as historic landmarks by whatever
local governing board has zoning jurisdiction over the subject
property. A Survey and Research Report is prepared for each
prospective landmark. This report documents the significance, both
architectural and historical, of the property. Over 230 reports
have been prepared.
As part of its educational mission, the Historic
Preservation Foundation is hosting these reports on our site.
We hope eventually to have them all on our website. For now, they
are all available in the Robinson-Spangler
Carolina Room of the Uptown Library and in the Special Collections
Department of the Atkins Library at UNCC.
Reminders:
1. These Survey & Research Reports have been written over a
period of several years. Be sure to check the date the report was
written. Check with local government agencies to be sure
information in these reports is up to date.
2. Most properties profiled herein are private property. If you
wish to photograph or visit a property, first contact the Landmarks Commission, who will
then contact the owner to obtain permission.

complete list of designated Charlotte-Mecklenburg historic
properties.
